Back to the battlefields this week - a great 3 days out guiding. Brilliant weather, a great group and the joy of being in some of my favourite places on Planet Earth. A great way to get back into the swing of things! https://t.co/rQO3EuaryN

To sum up my posts today in commemoration of 1st July 1916 and to truly show what those involved in the day went through, I've written up the first hand account of Private Thomas Higgins, 6th Bn North Staffs Regt. #Somme110 https://t.co/D8fxZaboTC 1.2K views · 47 likes · 4 reposts · 10 replies Open on X →

The Battle of the Somme was accompanied by a diversionary attack near the village of Gommecourt, undertaken by 46th and 56th Divisions - if you would like to read more about this battle, please read my blog post from the perspective of 46th Div #Somme110 https://t.co/J0wUI0UiI6 611 views · 21 likes · 1 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

It may all be coming to an end for now, but hopefully one day these tours return bigger and better than ever. For now, it's onto more adventures with @AngliaTours! THREAD END https://t.co/fMHQfET3Ge

My thanks also go to the staff, training teams and recruits of the British Army. Thank you for being so welcoming, kind and helpful in so many ways. I've learned a lot from you all and you have all made such impressions on me. I've had so much fun on these tours with you. https:/

Secondly, I must thank my guiding colleagues, all of whom have contributed to my growth in some way. My particular thanks go to @alberttopcat and @SusieCooper4021 for being excellent role models and friends and to John Carey - my Brummie stalwart I just can't get rid of 🤣 https:/

My biggest thanks go to @AngliaTours for giving me this opportunity in the first place. I am truly so happy that I was offered the chance to prove myself on an unknown stage. I will never forget the kindness shown to me with this offer. https://t.co/rFqkmk0Cp5

I have learned about the culture and traditions of the modern British Army, developed my skills as a guide, and I have developed personally in ways I never imagined. https://t.co/HpNPzItcbY

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement, but I simply can't put into words how much these tours have shaped me, not just as a guide but as a person too. I've learned how the army operates on a day to day basis through working with excellent staff from all the training sites.

THREAD: Over the last three years, I have been given the amazing opportunity of working with the British Army - guiding recruits and junior soldiers around battlefields of Northwest Europe on their Realities of War exercises. Due to the contract coming to an end, so do the tours.
