The White House plans to amend the National Climate Assessment to question RCP8.5. This is based on a poor understanding of both climate science and risk management. https://t.co/CSsA88SHl4

@AndrewDessler Water vapor is the feedback loop people keep underestimating. Warmer air holds ~7% more moisture per degree. I'd expect more records like this, not fewer. 297 views · 5 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

The increase in atmospheric water vapor is driven by the incredible warmth of the planet right now, which is due to climate change + the brewing El Nino. Read it here: https://t.co/wXFvq08Ua2 867 views · 15 likes · 6 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

On The Climate Brink: The Atmosphere Just Set a Water Vapor Record. Aug. 2026 probably had more water vapor in the atmosphere than any month in the last few thousand years, if not a 100,000 years. 12.5K views · 158 likes · 62 reposts · 10 replies Open on X →

This is bad news: the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere is one of the key factors controlling extreme rainfall. More water vapor, more extreme precipitation. 942 views · 20 likes · 4 reposts · 3 replies Open on X →

@AndrewDessler We design water infrastructure in Abu Dhabi for peak stress conditions because assets carry 30 to 50 year design lives. RCP8.5 gives planners the same high-end case. The NCA loses that function without it. 46 views · 2 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

The amendment is justified on two grounds: 1) RCP8.5 should not be used an expected emissions scenario and 2) it is not policy relevant. Point 1 is irrelevant since the NCA5 does not refer to it as business as usual, baseline, etc. And Point 2 is just wrong. https://t.co/UUFKT5W

On The Climate Brink, I post my defense of RCP8.5 and why the USGCRP's proposed amendment to eliminate RCP8.5/SSP5-8.5 from the National Climate Assessment is a terrible idea. 2.8K views · 43 likes · 10 reposts · 4 replies Open on X →
