Adding a third stage in a restricted length could only be achieved by increasing volume near the top of the missile. This inevitably compromised the supersonic #aerodynamics. The ‘Aerospike’ was an ingenious solution, creating a detached shock, offset from the blunt nose. 2/4 htt
