@VRubinObs Independent check request, not a rebuild. Frozen point only: w0 = -phi/2 about -0.809 wa = -1/phi about -0.618 Stack: Planck + DESI + named SN. Please report chi-squared vs flat LCDM, plus H0, Om, S8. Residual class A stays in 0.03 to 0.05. No extra free params. Anyone 8 views · 0 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

Just a normal camera, if “normal” means: 🔭 A 3.2-billion-pixel sensor 🌌 A field of view that could fit ~45 full Moons ⏱️ A new 8-gigabyte image every ~40 seconds NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory's LSST Camera is the largest ever built (thanks @SLAClab!) Ok, maybe that's not normal. ht

Universe, meet your astronomical dream team! 🤝 Two observatories, two different ways of seeing the cosmos, and a whole lot of potential for discovery when their observations come together. https://t.co/osPXy2PMCw
Rubin Observatory perched atop its mountain summit site on Cerro Pachón. The observatory is boot-shaped at lower left with long white service building extending left and silver dome sticking up. The dome's vertical slit is open, revealing the telescope in the blackness within. The night sky is peppered with the pinpricks of stars. The Little Beehive Cluster of stars is a denser collection of pinpricks to the upper right of the observatory.

Severe Storm Impacting NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory Operations in Chile- September 4 Update Following the severe storm that affected Chile’s Coquimbo Region in July, restoration & maintenance work continues at AURA/NSF NOIRLab’s observatory sites, which includes Rubin Observatory.

Clouds during the day☁️, clear at night🌌 That's a common pattern at NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory. Daytime heating lifts cool, moist marine air into clouds. After sunset, the air re-settles into the valleys, leaving clear skies for observing! 🎥 NSF–DOE RubinObs/NOIRLab/SLAC/AURA h

Rubin's view of COSMOS contains more than half a million galaxies and 50,000 stars! Its sensitivity even reveals the faint interstellar clouds of dust in our galaxy called "galactic cirrus." https://t.co/sHeObFU1Lm https://t.co/PYCfhn3CB4

COSMOS is one of the most observed patches of the Universe. It's located away from the plane of our Milky Way, so it gives an unobstructed view of the distant Universe. https://t.co/SrnmFeIsrB
A scale diagram of the Rubin Observatory LSSTCam field of view. A large white circle filled with a grid of small square tiles contains a wide starfield photo across its center. Inside the photo, small nested wireframe boxes show the vastly smaller views of the Webb, Chandra, Hubble, and Spitzer telescopes. In the bottom-right corner, a full Moon image looks tiny next to the giant circle, illustrating how Rubin's camera covers an area far larger than the Moon.

Rubin will repeatedly image COSMOS over the next decade, complementing earlier observations from other telescopes and helping scientists better study how the sky changes over time. https://t.co/UAONTnVhYh

A new view of a familiar field 🤩 Meet NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory's breathtaking view of the renowned COSMOS field🌀✨ https://t.co/ixUD4Ja69I 🧵 https://t.co/dG8xzbv6Q6
A dense field of countless pinpoint stars fills the frame against the deep black of space, creating a fine, grainy texture like fine sand spread across a smooth table. Dozens of particularly bright stars in blue, yellow, and orange glitter across the scene like jewels. Wispy, grayish clouds of galactic dust drift across the center and right sides of the image, appearing soft and powder-like against the dark background. Scattered throughout the entire scene are stars and faint objects in shades of blue, yellow, and red. Some appear as sharp, solid points, while others are soft, diffuse smudges. Zooming in reveals that many of these tiny, faint smudges scattered between the stars are actually distant galaxies, varying from smooth, pebble-like blobs to faint, stretched lines.
