I was against matching Broberg’s offer sheet for the reasons laid out in this thread & I stand by that even with the Ceci trade.
There’s a hole at 2RD, same as there ever was though. They do have some cap room to maneuver.

Podkolzin is a reasonable target. I think Holloway has a higher ceiling (or maybe I’m just more familiar with him). But as far as getting a guy for half the cap hit for a 4th (replaced with the 3rd they get for Holloway), it’s quite reasonable.

7) $4.5M x 2 is a ludicrous contract that I wouldn’t have dreamed of offering Broberg. Of course, that’s the point of a predatory offer sheet
8) For Broberg to be worth that, he needs to perform a role he hasn’t regularly played better than he’s played it in limited minutes.

6) I liked the idea of the Oilers playing Broberg in a 3rd pairing role. ‘Maybe’ he can play top 4 but we don’t know that yet. And in 81 games, he only had limited minutes against top comp with poor results. So we just don’t know yet.

4) In the NHL he has generally had poor numbers when played against top comp via Puck IQ over the last 3 years.
5) Part of the reason he looked better in the playoffs is a very high PDO. I wouldn’t take that to the bank for this coming year.

2) I like Broberg in a ‘I think this young guy has NHL potential they need to give him a chance’ sort of way.
