Most people are deeply invested in not understanding certain things.
Once you know what those things are, you will understand so much about that person...and where their emotions override their logic.
They are massive weak points.
...Don't be this person.

I wrote an article on "How to Not Get Divorced (as an ambitious person)."
It lists:
-The things that break relationships
-How my most successful clients keep their marriages
-Real tactics to use today

Impatience is such a great trait...it doesn't get enough credit.
Patience is solid for long-term vision & compounding results...but impatience & push make it possible to get there.
Patience gets all the credit.
Impatience does all the work.

every great founder i know has a phase in their story where they were just embarrassingly broke and irrationally confident at the same time

Most people don't have the chops for hard things, they just like to say a lot of tough sounding words.

@drgurner A strong partnership doesn’t require both people to maximize their careers at the same time. When couples communicate clearly and take turns supporting each other’s bigger moves, individual progress can become shared progress.

@drgurner After 25 yrs, we are nearly ready to do exactly this. Took a minute but the delay to allow my wife to personally raise our three kids was worth it.

@drgurner I always tell those I mentor that choosing a partner that has a "team" mindset is the most impactful decision that you'll make as an aspiring female leader.

My spouse and I have "laddered up" our whole careers. One in building mode, the other in earning mode.
Then it flips...
Another in building mode, the other in earning mode.
Fastest way to accelerate as a couple.
You have to be a team.

@drgurner This! I've had my phone for almost 5 years. It's slowing down, battery fades quickly. So proud of myself for having it this long though.

@drgurner I want a somewhat modular cell phone and I'd like to upgrade it myself, as needed

I really wish you could just buy one cell phone, and it updates forever. No more repetitive shopping for the same item.

@drgurner Love this so much.
Our marriage rule is we always live off one income and save the other.
I think the biggest risk for most people doing what you’re saying is they live outside their means and don’t have the freedom to risk it and build.
They always need to earn.

Just put my wife through college after my son started school.
5 years, college paid for asshe went.
Just started a teaching job in December. Now I save $12k a year in health insurance, $21k a year in tuition, and she adds $56k in salary.

@drgurner amazing way to think about it
when kids are involved you can likely do a mod of this model too
the important thing is that in your own eyes both modes are high-status and 100% respected

I've been doing this work for over a decade...
I've sat with Entrepreneurs, Athletes, Execs, in some of the top ventures in the world.
They carry mindsets and ways of going about work/life that few have access to.
So I'm dropping a Newsletter. 1/ https://t.co/NHVDi4Nnjl
