@kyleichan Because it is. US is trying to contain, stop China's rise. And you know this, that's why you love this anti China actions. You love them because you know they are aimed to contain China. And yes China is not responsible for the climate change, US and its dogs are 857 views · 1 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
@kyleichan Carbon restrictions can clearly be used to constrain developing countries’ growth. Ding Zhongli warned the West wouldn’t sustain emissions cuts—and he was right. https://t.co/7fNOhniuJi 2K views · 7 likes · 0 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →
China is pushing back against calls for an AI slowdown, saying it’s just a plot to stymie China’s AI progress. In the early days of climate talks, some influential Chinese voices argued climate was a US plot to slow down China’s development, as I wrote: https://t.co/lqI40YH3fV 43K views · 126 likes · 22 reposts · 5 replies Open on X →
@kyleichan Chinese government views AI in largely the same way as it viewed the Internet in the 90s and early 2000s. Loss of control over information control vs. loss of control over agents and systemic risk. Existential risk (the main focus in Western AI community) is a subset 2.6K views · 21 likes · 1 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
This UBS estimate that China is 15 years behind on EUV needs some caveats. First, information is very hard to get on China’s EUV efforts—for a reason. All estimates have large error bars. Second, this estimate seems based on where ASML was in 2004. Back then, EUV was being 19.6K views · 265 likes · 20 reposts · 17 replies Open on X →
Geely exec says they used automation at one EV plant to reduce workers by over 60%. This would be much, much harder at many US and German auto plants. https://t.co/wedNXKYpa7 7.3K views · 145 likes · 27 reposts · 9 replies Open on X →
This is quite stunning. China’s vast electric vehicle fleet can be flexed during an oil supply shock and offset the equivalent of the UK’s entire oil consumption. 16.4K views · 250 likes · 52 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →
@kyleichan @tszzl Thanks for the genius analysis where we make vapid one dimensional assumptions and broad generalizations about China and pretend those don’t apply just as crudely to the US. Have you considered writing for The Atlantic? https://t.co/fJNENpMsNJ 893 views · 2 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
Oil use displaced by EVs in China in H1 2026 exceeded the UK’s total oil use over a six-month period. The effect of EVs on oil use was almost twice as large as would be expected based on the increase in the number of EVs on the road alone, as the usage of existing EVs surged. ht 60.2K views · 195 likes · 52 reposts · 3 replies Open on X →

@kyleichan Technological loss of control also means supply chain vulnerability. If the tools stop coming, the AI race stops with it. Time to audit your supply chain. 3.3K views · 9 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

When Xi Jinping mentioned “technological loss of control” 技术失控 at WAIC, some read this as a sign that China was seeing AI risk like the US. But “loss of control” can mean different things in China, like loss of state control over a technology or system. It often does not 88.2K views · 325 likes · 46 reposts · 7 replies Open on X →

I’d disagree with Kyle’s assessment that China’s top-down model in the Mao era in terms of developing technology “failed miserably”, after all it was in that era China developed their nuclear and hydrogen bombs and laid the foundation of their s 88 views · 1 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
