I found this long post from OpenAIs chief scientist a bit bonkers. Outstanding, but bonkers.
Outstanding because you see someone smart and honest reason carefully through a very, very hard problem. Bonkers because of what follows from that reasoning.

So much for the job apocalypsis.
As Jin Li, Yanhui Wu and I argue in Messy Jobs: "Apocalyptic predictions that Ai will eliminate millions of jobs have caused widespread fear...Messy Jobs argues that this gloomy belief gets the economics of work wrong"

This is, to me, the most shocking graph from yesterday's Saxony-Anhalt. The traditional parties have lost the blue collar workers.
(All of the exit analysis is astonishing. Take a look here: https://t.co/pH61x9spR9) https://t.co/Uq2WemcutU

Dear Sweden: you have a good thing going on. Only Israel, Iceland and the US have more unicorns per capita. You are leading European tech. Let others commit the stupid mistakes and just keep it going! (see this piece with Per Strömberg below for this chart and more : https://t.c

The Economist says AI has added 1 million new jobs in America since mid-2023 (offsetting 200k AI related job losses):

@lugaricano Central and Eastern European countries have less and less reasons to believe in the good faith of the old Western powers if even the smartest of new initiatives ignores them.

@lugaricano @patrickc Very interesting choice that there's no one from Poland. Out of 40 people not one Polish. To be honest, this seems not accidental but xenophobic.
And then you hope to influence E6?
This type of action makes sure that Poland will be against it.
Best of luck!

We stopped everything to write an answer (link below) to Paul Krugman's two posts of today (one informal, one with a simple model) arguing that Europe is broadly not falling behind the United States.

Famously (there is a beautiful Works in Progress piece on this) in 2016, Geoffrey Hinton told an audience in Toronto that medical schools should stop training radiologists, since AI would soon outperform them at reading scans. Ten years later, there are more radiologists than htt
