@mtkonczal How much does this cost a middle-class family? I tried a similar analysis. 837 views · 5 likes · 2 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
@mtkonczal Get your pitchforks, tar and feathers, now before the price increases! It's time to rise up against the oligarchs! 588 views · 4 likes · 0 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →
If we want to do a round on proprietors' incomes (which the BLS awkwardly imputes into this series), nonfinancial corporate, which ducks that issue, is also at its lowest labor share on record in the BLS series. We also see this in BEA data; the last six quarters look real. ht 2.1K views · 3 likes · 1 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
Mike knows this well, but there are measurement issues w/ the BLS labor share wonks love to discuss. But after those adjustments (just focus on corporate sector, take out depreciation), we get the same basic result. So worth paying attention to (not the case pre-2020 IMO) h 2.6K views · 4 likes · 1 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
This was true on preliminary too, but I wanted to wait for revised to throw the signal flare that I'm thinking this is a big deal, and a new post-2024 development. https://t.co/HIcO14gMOU 2.9K views · 21 likes · 4 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →
Compensation (including wages & benefits) as % GDP has fallen, indicating a shift in income from labor to capital. How much? Well, the drop since 2019 is about 3.4% GDP, which is $1 trillion or $7,600 per household. https://t.co/UOSFqxu2py https://t.co/Ofjtu4oF5S 1.5K views · 36 likes · 14 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
Back and forth on this argument, but I do always flag that the 30-year Treasury rate right now after the rise (~5.2%) is still significantly less than the 30-year rate during the high-growth years of 1999-2000 (5.9%). 8.8K views · 33 likes · 2 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →
Found this intellectual and social history of Bush's war cabinet at a used book store while traveling, written during the time, and it's just wild how different conservative intellectual politics are now. How would you even write such a thing about Trump's second term? https://t 2.8K views · 23 likes · 0 reposts · 5 replies Open on X →
Come work with me! I'm hiring a Senior Director for my team. I want to push what a policy and research team can do, and this position will be at the forefront of tackling the big economic questions of the day. Consider applying or sharing. https://t.co/ByR540sCAB 7K views · 33 likes · 11 reposts · 7 replies Open on X →
