@simongerman600 I grew up with ground floor, but living in the US taught me that the first floor being the ground floor is the most intuitive. After all, you’re counting by natural numbers, not using a mathematical axis (which is the argument for the European system). 8K views · 11 likes · 0 reposts · 4 replies Open on X →
@simongerman600 It’s because they don’t yse the word “floor” in Europe. I don’t think they have an equivalent word for it in english but it means rougly “upstairs”. 10.8K views · 15 likes · 0 reposts · 12 replies Open on X →
@simongerman600 I'm intrigued by the countries with both systems. Does one have to take the stairs/lift/escalator to go from the first floor to the first floor? 2.8K views · 21 likes · 0 reposts · 3 replies Open on X →

@simongerman600 Way too many. Less permanent migration. If it's about the economy they don't need citizenship or PR. 686 views · 77 likes · 1 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →
@simongerman600 I find it strange how you write that ageing makes migration urgent but then write in the article that, "Australia is ageing, regardless of what we do with migration. Migration cannot stop ageing, it can only slow it down" So we can afford to get it wrong? Also, 502 views · 54 likes · 0 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →
@simongerman600 200,000 per year is a medium sized city per year into country that is already 32% immigrants. Great idea. 227 views · 41 likes · 1 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →
Australia needs migration. It also needs a migration system worth defending. That's why we urgently need a migration reform. In my latest column, I argue for net overseas migration of around 200,000 a year, with flexibility as circumstances change. But who arrives, and whether 13.2K views · 89 likes · 21 reposts · 82 replies Open on X →

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the construction of manufacturing facilities in the US has been falling rapidly since Trump's randomised tariffs. Capital likes certainty and the US has a whole lot of uncertainty on the menu. https://t.co/bmWW3zKmES 5.4K views · 133 likes · 49 reposts · 9 replies Open on X →

This map of US Interstate exits doubles as a population density map. Exits cluster tightly across the urbanised eastern half and around major cities. Head into the sparsely populated Great Plains, deserts and Mountain West, and the distance to the next exit grows dramatically. ht 30.4K views · 296 likes · 31 reposts · 8 replies Open on X →
