💡 Takeaways Increasing ADHD rates - overdiagnosis or appropriately catching previously undiagnosed individuals? At a population level, this landmark study argues that it's OVERDIAGNOSIS. Since polygenic risk scores are fixed based on the time/cohort they were initially 794 views · 10 likes · 2 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →

🔎 Danish registers miss the primary care clinical frontline We have to interpret these genetic trends within the limits of how the data was collected. The Danish registers used here only capture diagnoses made in hospital inpatient and specialized outpatient facilities. They ht

📉 Autism shows the exact same pattern We see a similar genetic dilution effect in the autism spectrum disorder cohort. As awareness and diagnostic rates climbed, the baseline genetic liability required to receive an ASD diagnosis systematically fell. » ASD PRS decreased by htt

🧬 The threshold is lowering for ADHD The real-world data firmly pointed to one scenario: we are broadening our diagnostic criteria. Patients diagnosed with ADHD in 2015 had significantly lower genetic risk for the disorder than those diagnosed in 1994. » ADHD PRS decreased by

💻 Testing three hypotheses Before looking at the clinical data, the team built simulations to predict what genetic risk profiles would look like under three different scenarios for rising diagnostic rates. » Better detection: PRS stays stable or increases (catching previously h

📋 The iPSYCH case-cohort The researchers leveraged the Danish iPSYCH cohort, a massive population-based sample linking national registers and biobanks. They plotted the year of incident diagnosis against 10 different polygenic risk scores to capture a comprehensive genetic http

🤔 Diagnosing a moving target Over the past two decades, ASD and ADHD diagnoses have increased 4- to 10-fold across multiple populations. We (psychiatrists, patients, and the public) debate the causes endlessly: better awareness, environmental toxins, screen time, or expanding h

🚨 ADHD and Autism rates- Real or Inflated? 🚨 Diagnoses have skyrocketed over the last 20 years. Are we detecting missed cases, or broadening diagnostic criteria? By tracking polygenic scores across two cohorts totaling over 37,000 diagnoses, we finally have a biological https:/

It’s often said that there’s no biomarker for ME/CFS, Long Covid, Post Vaccine Syndrome, PSSD, Lyme Disease, etc. I strongly disagree. However, it helps to have the right data and tools to visualise it. To help people explore the Born Free disease model and better understand
