i think if your response is
— that means we should never build AI
— this will never happen because God is real and souls exist
— the brain is not a computer and is something far different/quantum mechanical/etc.
that's totally reasonable. i disagree, but it's defensible

and whether it’s 5 or 50 years, we are approaching alien minds that will understand and express our human condition in ways that we cannot
other than the existence of god, everything we know tells us that Everything Is Algorithms, even “beauty”

the notion that the “best” art (whatever that means) will be AI created is heretical i know and will get me burned at the stake. but i’m almost certain it’s true in the limit! the truly blind expert turing test for literature and music and the visual arts will be saturated

we will resign ourselves to human communities with human art and human relationships, even if the AIs will make more compelling experiences in every way
but we must be serious about the world we’re headed towards. do not be attached to your capabilities. they will soon disappear

i’m not at all depressed by this or something, i hope it doesn’t come off this way!
everything being artisanal is fine! i don’t ever watch Stockfish play chess or look at Midjourney images or read AI writing already. this doesn’t make us less human or make my life less rich

all human work in the future is artisanal!!! there is nothing that will survive automation by the machines other than things that derive inherent value from being produced by a human

’but AIs will lack emotion or can’t love’ is true at a functional level, they won’t be human, but they will be better at us at making other humans ’feel loved’ than you, the perfectly tuned balance of caring yet real and tough when needed but ultimately forgiving

creating the catchiest or most 'beautiful' literature and poetry and music from the view of any blind human judge will all be bested by AI

not to say that we won't find economic success or human artisinal value or whatever in these fields. just that our raw capacity will be greatly surpassed, without a question

i don't think nearly anyone, myself included, has truly internalized there'll soon be a machine better than us in every single intellectual & physical capacity
deep down we all share a feeling that our 'entrepreneurship' or 'taste' or... is special & safe. it isn't. it's over

there's still breakthroughs to be made to get here, but we'll solve them. models will learn on the fly, with data efficiency greater than humans, with greater taste and judgement and empathy than we can possibly imagine

i am pre-committing that in 2035 i will retire to The Slowzone as part of the digital amish, forgoing any and all technology invented after 1997. my children will never know a computer capable of displaying video

i don’t think this openai vs independent researcher. this is clearly oai vs anthropic (with external collaborator, who initiated the project) and oai tried to coordinate with tristan out of goodwill, but reasonably pushed against given free credit to ant

it's kinda absurd to suggest that Anthropic was entirely uninvolved, as a strictly personal collaboration. Buckmaster was using internal unreleased Anthropic models (Mythos 2 likely), coauthoring with Levent, and timing is close to Ant IPO announcement plans... https://t.co/Zl0Mu

yeah unless this is just an abject lie, this seems to be the situation. i think openai is in the right here. i'm sure this situation wasn't handled perfectly but i strongly believe the sebastian & team tried to what was best with integrity

i'm sorry but if openai hears 'anthropic solved navier stokes' and races to throw a bunch of agents on it, without any information on your approach, and the agents discover the same thing (and more), still offer you dual credit in goodwill, that is totally above board
this all

and there it is
all they have to do is strip your identifying info off the Millenium Prize Fields Medal worthy codex chat records that you’ve been using their tools to work on for over a year
and they learn from it and scoop your work
and they’re double down and pressing ahead

holy fuck. 4.9 million messages, 300 billion tokens, 10,000 concurrent agents. complete denial of borrowing any work, new astra-next model with seemingly insane benchmarks. they solved the unforced version, not the forced version! https://t.co/9TrxZFhEUi
