both "stochastic parrots" and "it's all marketing hype" have been easily disprovable since about 2023 if you spend any time at all using AI.
but many people (including some AI journalists!) never tried the tools out of some combination of fear, pride, and corporate IT policy.

@cwarzel this is almost entirely the media’s fault imo, our peers have been incredibly cynical about AI, even when (as you suggest) the *actually correct* skeptical take all along was “maybe the labs aren’t lying for profit and this stuff is very dangerous”
