@washghost1 7 and 5 is a little young depending on where they were walking, but at that age my brother and I were out playing in the neighborhood, not having my parents walk us everywhere we wanted to go. We just couldn't leave the cul-de-sac.

@washghost1 I don’t know the context here, but in Japan, children as young as 3 to 4 routinely walk long distances on their own, and some kids of 5-6 years of age will even take the trains on their own. We have become a helicopter society.
