A recent study on megaraptora suggests that these theropods were somewhere around 40-70% lighter than other theropods of similar size. For instance Maip is dimensionally similar to Allosaurus fragilis but only weighed around 1.3 tons(Allosaurus is generally estimated around 2-3).

The first dinosaur skeleton to be mounted and put on display anywhere in the world was the Academy of Natural Sciences. While the collections will likely be fine, museums help to educate the public and make science accessible to all. A huge loss for scientific outreach. https://t

You know what, tagging @JoshShapiroPA in the chance the state can step in and do something. Clearly the reception to this news is largely disappointment. We need places for then public to learn!

I’m appreciate that most of the responses to this unfortunate news are largely positive. Hoping the collection is maintained and research continues, it’s just a shame the main public outlet for the last 200 years will be gone.

@TM9380 This one is hard to hear. It's always been on my list to visit, and I even just checked to see the probability of doing a last minute pilgrimage and it's just not doable. So disappointing

I deeply saddened to hear the Academy of Natural Sciences museum, the oldest natural history museum in America, will be shutting its doors for good at the end of the month. A massive loss to both the scientific and local communities https://t.co/2e5KRUr9Cb

This is one of my new favorite ways to display a plesiosaur. Often you’ll see them suspended from ceilings but this take in Nebraska is really cool and unique. #FossilFriday https://t.co/0U1S0wX3bd

So this one is interesting because it really shows how different deer and sheep are in their combat style. The ram has a distinct advantage when charging, but deer make for better grapplers when they get close…

Pinning this since it’s my most liked tweet(previous record holder linked here). If you like my content, hope you stick around and consider supporting my efforts to add more pieces to my outreach collection!
