It appears I missed the *massive* stipulation that "our starting balance is $100", meaning our whole net worth is on the line. Of course, one would never take that bet. Not even if it paid 2:1. Poker pro here. I make bets for a living. This is the correct logic applied incorrectly. The reason insurance exists is because people can’t afford the variance.
