My friend Olle loves to leave me with a memory when I visit Gimmelwald. Last time, we harnessed up and did the via ferrata (Italian for “iron way”), a 3-hour trek across the cliff between Mürren and Gimmelwald. This time it was tandem paragliding over the Lauterbrunnen Valley. ht

@RickSteves It’s not worth it other than for the massive govt subsidies to farmers 454 views · 4 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
@RickSteves Swiss farmers receive extensive subsidies from the government. Without this aid, they would, by in large, not be able to survive. This looks like charming Gimmewald. We absolutely loved hiking down to that town on your advice from your show 😍 845 views · 10 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

Make hay while the sun shines…and if you’re in a hurry, hire a helicopter. It costs a Swiss farmer about $3000 an hour to haul hay. Watching this, I was struck by how fast they worked…but at $50 a minute, it made sense. What surprised me was that hay would be worth it. https://t.

@RickSteves Just last light I watched your Austrian and Italian Alps episode, that started at the German border and ended at The Dolomites. One scene has you sitting on a lounge chair enjoying the most spectacular view. This was one of my most favorite episodes ever. https://t.c

I love the Swiss Alps. But I also love the great Swiss cities: Zurich, Bern, Lausanne, and Luzern. Here’s a quick peek at Luzern—locals leaping into their river, wooden bridges complete with centuries-old paintings, a snowcapped Alpine backdrop, and an inspirational urbanity. htt

For years as a tour guide, I had a love-hate relationship with sleeping on the Rhine—great towns…but hotels over-looking the train tracks with trains rampaging through all night long. But now it’s four panes of modern glass and when a train screams by…you hear nothing. https://t.

It’s easy to put down Mykonos and Santorini for crowds and high prices, but I came away from this year’s research liking both even more. Here’s a moment of Mykonos bliss…two boys lost in friendship, sharing a moment oblivious to everything but their soccer ball. https://t.co/ZU1d

@RickSteves Socialism never works because you can’t take from someone that earned and give it to someone that didn’t. That is human nature and it always will be. 108.4K views · 1.1K likes · 26 reposts · 306 replies Open on X →
As a traveler, I'm both a proud American and a citizen of the world — and I've got a few thoughts on this coming election. This election is deeper than partisanship. It's far more than Republican versus Democrat. In the future, big challenges like pandemics, refugees, and http
