Guess which one is Rust btw. 🤣
(The point is the language isn't a free lunch for performance. Rust could be just as small as any other here. It isn't a given. Fundamentals and system design trump everything else. Language wars are stupid as hell.)

@mitchellh You need a lot of taste for that to be true. As a general advice to the dev population you rather end up in premature optimization hell with a principle like that.

@mitchellh what are one of the fundamentals about yourself that took the hardest to build and you are most proud of?

Beware people obsessed with outcomes instead of building outcome machines. Its worse than ever with AI, but these people existed before. Short term results above all else, etc. Don't fall into the trap. Invest in building strong fundamentals, invisible supports, and outcomes flow

A video explaining a handful of the tricks we use to optimize for memory within the Superlogical server: in-memory compression, moving file descriptors between event-driven and blocked threads dynamically, full terminal state binary snapshot/restore in microseconds, and more! htt

@mitchellh Maybe a tall ask but how does this compare with Herdr? I feel like tmux, zellij and herdr are the big 3 in this space currently and herdr is gaining some steam

The Superlogical server is built to run anywhere and everywhere and serve a level of scale (terminals+clients) unmatched w/ prior solutions. So let's start talking about that, starting with memory usage and comparisons to other popular multiplexers.
I want to start by talking ht

@mitchellh You may actually get worse performance on a 13-inch MacBook Pro (i5 1.4 GHz, 8 GB RAM) but running on Tahoe.
Tahoe was an overall performance regression, if we’re talking about first window appearing for an app the Liquid Glass toll can be ~25 ms with an high end devic

@mitchellh forcing dev teams to build on 8gb dual-core machines is the only actual cure for modern software bloat.
half of these electron apps wouldn't survive a week.

To show how much I care about performance, I just ordered the worst specced 2020 Intel MacBook Air I could find (i3, 1.1 GHz, 8 GB RAM). It is the last supported hardware for macOS 15, our min target for Superlogical. Going to optimize on it for worst-case behavior.

Quick Superlogical demo to end the week. This demo is just of the basic functionality, but I want to highlight just how FAST it is. There's a WHOLE lot more functionality already present and coming but I wanted to keep the demo short. But seriously, check out that speed.

@mitchellh Is this different than when everything was some variation of Bootstrap?
I suppose if I had seen a company launch a site back then that was quite clearly Bootstrap I would not have been impressed.

@mitchellh I had Claude design a concept marketing page in the style of a 1998 conspiracy theory website and it cooked.
Wasn't fit for human consumption though. https://t.co/Jc4bdQ8NLR

I'm so incredibly tired of seeing low-effort AI-designed web pages. I basically bounce off any new product immediately when I see it (never get a chance to judge the product itself). Lots of thin lines, glowy styles, inconsistent fonts, lots of monospace. You know who you are.
