All this AI progress should only make you more impressed with poets and writers, who remain far ahead of even the very best frontier model outputs 19K views · 242 likes · 21 reposts · 13 replies Open on X →
@nabeelqu "Psychologically it's easier to downplay the implications" This is not true, it is psychologically easier to turn it into a boogeyman through intentional language and build a mythology around it by playing on ignorance. it is a harder path and less profitable path to g 78 views · 2 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
@nabeelqu hmm. Doomers are doing an EV calculation: for p(doom) E is small but V is big, so I care about doom. Others have a calculus that amounts to: if p(doom) < ε, disregard and focus on the likely problems. You can disagree but it’s not just cope! 1.1K views · 3 likes · 0 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →
@nabeelqu I think the obverse is true, some people loooove thinking about the implications, because they have a millenarian kink. We always want it to be the end of the world. Après moi, le déluge kind of mentality. Doomerism and Obliviousness both are appealing. 1.8K views · 24 likes · 0 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →
People don't *want* to think about what happens if AI/swarms actually become strong and capable (esp if robotics also accelerates) because it's scary. Psychologically it's easier to downplay the implications, say "it's just code", or deny that anything major is happening. 28.2K views · 464 likes · 32 reposts · 25 replies Open on X →
What you'd think people would talk about: "Autonomous agent swarm committed felony and hacked internal infrastructure... how do we stop this in future?" What people are talking about: "I can't believe Dwarkesh used the word 'civilizations' in his post!" 16K views · 273 likes · 16 reposts · 15 replies Open on X →
It's completely valid to describe the agents as "excited" in examples like this. This is not "anthropomorphizing". They're literally trained on human language and acting in the same world we built; of course they will sometimes express human-like emotions. https://t.co/OzmzpQgT 9K views · 247 likes · 17 reposts · 19 replies Open on X →
Multi-agent cooperation of this type is a huge deal and plausibly gets us to ASI quite fast. Recall that humans wiped out other human-like species due in part to our superior ability to coordinate with each other in swarms. 17.3K views · 407 likes · 31 reposts · 21 replies Open on X →
