Unpopular Opinion: We should rename “Bitcoin hardware wallets” to “Bitcoin signing devices.”
It’d fix so many problems in understanding for Bitcoin beginners and make it evident why a passphrase is needed.

Being max akshually: a "Hardware signer" somewhat implies that it has dedicated hardware -- an ASIC -- to do the signing.
Signing happens via software whether it's running on a small device or on a laptop/etc computer.

@Excellion Bitcoin uses LevelDB to store the UTXO set. LevelDB is an LSM tree database, meaning, it balances indexes across different storage / memory types. It's capable of scaling to that size today and does not require server grade hardware to run.
