I had to play every

Handy Time Saver:
When you read a news article or a review that uses the words "nuanced", "dated", or "problematic" you can stop reading immediately and go to somethign else, because the writer just told you his entire piece is complete bullshit. https://t.co/lQqsPmcG9F

Modern devs have entirely different sets of problems. I only ever encountered the anti-game artists at MicroProse. By the time of id Software and Ensemble Studios, all our artists were firmly game-lovers.
The lesson here is that it's not just talent that makes a great https://t

There were other cases, but instead of whining I want to sing the praises of Max Remington (his real name). He was every designer's favorite artist. We of course called him "Maximum" for short.
He didn't fit in with the other artists. He absolutely friggin' LOVED games, while h

At MicroProse, some of the artists treated game design as a hobby that kept interrupting their Fine Art.
The art department as a whole ad a "fine arts" culture. The attitude was that while gaming was all very well, a real artist needed to do real art. About once a game, your ht
