That he could figure it out that fast with someone else after seven years of not doing it with me. It feels like 1.5K views · 67 likes · 54 reposts · 7 replies Open on X →

I showed up to my date and this man looked me up and down and told me I looked like Neapolitan ice cream. That was his opening. That was the first thing out of his mouth when I arrived. I turned around and left. Not after a conversation, not after giving him a chance to explain 6K views · 83 likes · 61 reposts · 14 replies Open on X →

So they called for first class boarding and a woman came from the back of the line and cut right in front of me. Told me she was in first class and needed to board. I said so am I. She looked at me with this expression that was equal parts shocked and embarrassed and then moved 14K views · 81 likes · 39 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →

he never brought up our conversation again. didn't make it a moment, didn't want credit for it. just fixed it and moved on. i think about that post-it a lot. one phone call from his daughter and something clicked that i couldn't get through to him with a direct conversation. i'm 279.7K views · 3.4K likes · 13 reposts · 9 replies Open on X →

i got my period at work and went to use the tampon dispenser in the bathroom and it wanted 75 cents. i didn't have change. so i knocked on my boss's door and asked if the company could just provide basic hygiene products in the bathroom. pretty reasonable request i thought. he 1.4M views · 7.1K likes · 136 reposts · 92 replies Open on X →

He shouldn't have to navigate this. He's a kid who wanted to go to a lake. That's all. And I had to turn that into a conversation about why the world sees him differently and why that difference can cost him everything. The world is heavy today. He's probably in his room angry right now and I am in my office trying not to fall apart because both of those things are true at the same time. I want him to have every normal teenage experience. I want him to go to the lake and make memories with his class and come home 7.5K views · 40 likes · 1 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →

My son asked if he could go hang out at the lake with some kids from his senior class. A normal teenage request. The kind of thing kids ask every day. My Black son. In a small town in Oklahoma. At a lake. With them. I said no. Gently. And I explained why because he deserved an 37.2K views · 235 likes · 62 reposts · 33 replies Open on X →
