Dams are important, but for water and flood management. There sre better more modular and efficient ways to generate power. Locking oneself in a 20 year mega capacity cost, when cheaper modular options are available is just bad math, and bad policy.

This is a great timeline. Project cost in 2008 was roughly PKR 756 billion. It is now PKR 4.2 trillion. A 5.55x increase. The consumer pays all this delta through electricity bills as capacity cost. This is the major chunk of capacity cost.

For every year of delay, cost increases. A 6 year delay TRIPLES the cost. There is enough literature out there clearly demonstrating how hydel projects are the worst in terms of cost overruns and delays.

The capacity cost keeps on increasing for hydro, because of higher debt repayments obligations and interest payments. Agsin, it gets worse when PKR deprecuation and delays are factored in.
