... his appeals to reason, not authority; his relish to hear from the most unsparing opponents, to correct his own errors; his incapacity for glumness, glibness, or fear. I applied, and 23 years later could write this thread. 10/11 5.2K views · 49 likes · 1 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

Thanks to HLS folks (esp. Dean Goldberg & Ben Eidelson) and my mentors from too much schooling (esp. Mark Johnston, Gideon Rosen, John Finnis, Reva Siegel, Gideon Yaffe); bosses Judge Griffith & Justice Alito; ND Dean Cole & ND colleagues (especially...so many, including all in 5.5K views · 54 likes · 1 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

And thanks to my most formative mentor since college... As a senior at Dover High (in Dover, Delaware), I applied to just 6 or 7 schools, more local than “elite” (today 3 are ranked in the 60s, 80s & 160s). I considered Princeton only after reading a profile of Robby George 5.2K views · 52 likes · 1 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

As a recent Catholic convert, I was struck by his serenely confident, cheerful, charitable defenses of his views at a place like Princeton; his impact on audiences (there & beyond) who rarely heard from folks like him... 9/11 4.9K views · 53 likes · 1 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

After *lots* of prayer & reflection on my strengths/weaknesses/experiences (see below) & more, I felt called to do that while also being challenged at HLS & made to grow in turn, just as I have consistently been at ND. As w/ND, my HLS visit brought great convos w/faculty & hugely rewarding bond w/students (incl. the 83 1Ls forced into my con law class). Honored to be there and excited for the Dean & admin’s vision. And a fellowship will help me keep collaborating w/ & learning from ND’s 5.8K views · 38 likes · 1 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

HLS presented a literally one-of-a-kind way to serve those ends (through that primary work & public engagement) at another extraordinary institution, of incredible reach, where my perspective is far less represented. 4/11 6.9K views · 55 likes · 1 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →

NDLS’s greatness lies in doing the primary work of any great law school (unstintingly pursuing the truth and forming lawyers) with a distinctive broader mission and ideals. Those broader ends are outward-looking and redound to the benefit of the nation. 3/11 7.7K views · 57 likes · 2 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →

This is bittersweet. I love Notre Dame Law: World-class faculty, students, and culture; remarkably supportive leaders in Dean Cole, Provost McGreevy, Fr. Dowd; a vision rooted in the Catholic faith, which I think entirely true; and a patroness in the best person God ever made. 22.5K views · 126 likes · 1 reposts · 3 replies Open on X →
