The most reliable predictor of open public schools in 2020 was not infection data or science, but a district's 2016 support for Trump (open) or Clinton (closed). There was nothing inherently right or left to the issue; the mere fact that Trump demanded schools open drove things.

Like many, I've noticed the nastiness of the online Orthodox. It stands out. Some replies here are in that vein. The thin-skinnedness & vitriol betray deep insecurity & a maximally fragile self-image. It's the opposite vibe of someone who is secure & confident in their tradition.

Even though we might deny it, I think nearly all of us operate with the idea that we will live a complete life - seeing our kids grow & marry, become grandparents, grow old. Or at least we think our death will be meaningful & foreseen, with ample time for closure & goodbyes.
