1/ What would you do with $17billion?
Meta just settled for billions. Everyone's asking if it's enough. Almost nobody is asking what we should actually do with the money.

As we near the end of a year-long celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday, author and political theorist @dsallentess discusses the Declaration of Independence and perhaps the most important words in American political history: “We hold these truths to be self-evident...” http

9/ Research shows that All-Party Primaries produce younger, more representative officials& higher turnout among voters of color. Real competition changes who runs, who wins, and who stays. A democracy that only works for insiders isn't a democracy. It's a machine--a broken one.

7/ That's why I'm working on Question 3 this November: All-Party Primaries for state legislative, statewide, and federal congressional races. Every voter gets the same ballot. Every eligible candidate gets access. The top two advance to the general.

8/ The general electorate gets to make the decision. The general electorate is younger and more diverse than the primary electorate.

6/And elected officials stop listening. I want people to have a vote that matters. I don't want myself or my communities to be taken for granted.

5/ They were right. MA has the fewest competitive elections in America. Since 2014, 51% of races have had zero opposition. In 2024, that climbed to 61%. 6 out of 10 races were decided before a single vote was counted. Without competition, voters get taken for granted.

1/ People have been asking me why I decided to launch a ballot initiative for an all-party primary in Massachusetts. I've been working on this for five years, and I want to tell the story. So here goes. 🧵

3/ People also had great ideas about potential solutions. But then when I asked if folks would be voting in the upcoming election, I was surprised by how many people said no. They didn't see the point. There were no real choices on the ballot.

2/ Five years ago, I visited Spring of Hope Church in Springfield. I was there for church but stayed for a community meeting afterwards. There was a passionate, intense conversation about all kinds of challenges in Springfield--
policing, asthma, schools, housing and eviction.
