I don't understand why people are using the relative stability of England's PISA scores as evidence that reforms haven't worked. If [choose your pet theory] is causing declines in most rich countries, flat scores must mean that something in England is countering this trend. 5.5K views · 77 likes · 8 reposts · 7 replies Open on X →
Math(s) tweeps: I forgot to post this last week (when it would have been topical). Turn 11 at Monza is called the parabolica, but it's actually a clothoid (Euler spiral): the radius of curvature decreases steadily, so drivers can unwind the steering wheel at a constant rate. 4K views · 8 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
I asked @ChatGPT about RCTs of school improvement initiatives and what it produced was not perfect, but interesting enough for me to ask for it as a report, which you can find here: https://t.co/k73OFso2ka. Full disclosure: no humans were involved in writing this report. 6.9K views · 16 likes · 1 reposts · 3 replies Open on X →

A lot of politicians seem to have one of two responses to disappointing test results: 1) say the tests don't measure anything important so they can be ignored 2) use them as pretexts for introducing their pet policies. I'm not sure which I despise more. 1.9K views · 42 likes · 11 reposts · 5 replies Open on X →
Tesla have an 'unboxed' manufaturing process for their cybercabs. I didn't know what that meant. I do now. Rather than building one Cybercab sequentially along a conventional assembly line, they build several major sections in parallel and joins them together near the end.
