The merge is the first of it's kind.
The team pre-minted all NFT's (ERC721A standard) one-by-one instead of batch minting (costing 18x more gas). However, these gas fees were passed on as savings to holders using the merge mechanism.
Apes have been merged for under $0.30c each.

The tiers act as metadata stripes that showcase the journey of your digital ape on the blockchain.
Every ROTA that went to war (a complex, gamified smart contract) AND came back successfully... tiered up. Many were burnt at war.
ATS (OG)'s were automatically tier 4.

All NFT's remain on the Ethereum chain.
