@wtgowers My major problem with their letter is the false statement that AI just produce true/false with no insights.
It is very easy, and I did it myself, to prompt the AI to extract useful insights, constructs, and objects from a new proof they provide.

@wtgowers Good post! Let me propose another possible way to understand LLMs’ relative advantage: I think the problems they are solving are ones where meaningful “partial progress” is relatively unlikely. Such problems are more expensive for humans to attempt…

I went to the (great) workshop in Leiden that led to the Leiden Declaration, but ended up not signing it, as it didn't really represent my views, though it wasn't too different either, so the decision wasn't an obvious one. I've explained more in a blog post. Link in next tweet.
