I just want to make one thing very clear. There have been people resorting to increasingly desperate methods to try to silence me and prevent me from speaking out about rape and the abuse I’ve suffered, but I will NEVER stop raising awareness and advocating for change.

My respect goes to you Ellie for fighting this injustice against yourself and I say this as a 20 year old man.
Your rapists lawyer comes across to me as a man who can’t accept he was put in his place by a strong women.

I'm relieved this is being looked into, but because the investigation is ongoing, I won't say much more for now. But I hope this sends a clear message to any legal professionals who seek to target survivors after the verdict is over. We deserve better.

Victims shouldn't have to keep defending themselves long after a trial is over. No lawyer should be able to continue attacking a victim outside the courtroom without scrutiny. Coming forward about rape is an incredibly tough thing to do and we shouldn't be targeted or smeared.

This lawyer even publicly reacted with a laughing emoji to a video from a JIMS mocking me. This is from someone who had already been sanctioned for his conduct towards me.

My complaint also concerns his involvement with a group called JIMS, whose members have repeatedly targeted victims of sexual violence while supporting convicted offenders. I have evidence showing he contacted the group to encourage support for the man accused of stalking me.

This resulted in more than a year of harassment, stalking, and threats. The extent of this has been frightening, with a former JIMS director (who left due to concerns over the group's behaviour) providing evidence to show my name was mentioned in their chat over 600 times.

All of this discussion around the recording serves as a distraction from the reality of what happened to me and the strength of the case - which relied not only on a recorded confession, but written confessions, and witness testimony.

In reality, the recording released in the media was shortened only because the full version is extremely long and contains private conversations about unrelated people. It does not change the meaning of the confession. The jury heard the full recording—and convicted him.

That claim has fuelled people who wish to discredit me and support my attacker accusing me online of fabricating evidence, and claiming that my rapist never admitted to what he did, which is untrue. His letter has been used as "evidence" of this claim.

In the letter, he suggested that a published version of my attacker's recorded confession was different from the recording played in court. The implication was that the confession had somehow been misrepresented, and that my attacker hadn't confessed to rape.

The first part centres on a letter he wrote supporting a man who spent years abusing me online because I reported my rape. That man, a practising doctor, has since been charged with stalking me.

I was left traumatised. So I taught myself the law, complained about his conduct, and won. He was found to have abused his position and ordered to pay compensation. That should've been the end. Instead, two years later, I've had to make another complaint against the same lawyer.

I've now been informed by the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission that my complaint has merit and could amount to a conduct violation. It will now be investigated by the Faculty of Advocates. My complaint deals with 2 main issues:

After my rapist was convicted, his lawyer said the real injustice wasn't the rape—it was that I'd graduated with top grades while his client was going to prison. He asked what I wore to bed, how I behaved with other men, and accused me of having mental disorders I don't have.

Since my post yesterday, I’ve had a huge outpouring of support, but I’ve also had some (perhaps well-meaning people) telling me I need to “just move on” from being raped. I understand not everyone is aware of what’s happened to me since, but abuse doesn’t end after the act.

Athletics was once my whole world, but after being raped by a fellow athlete and reporting to the police, my track journey ended. For a long time I couldn’t even watch the sport. It’s bittersweet yet empowering returning to my home track for the Commonwealth Games as a spectator.

@ellieokwilson I can see the courage in you. On behalf of others that you fight for, and to make things easier, thank you. I’d be interested if you felt able to share: what can men specifically do to help. Other than supporting you and calling out wrong? It’s important for us all

I’ve had people ask why I’m speaking out, and my answer is this: I have so much pain that I will never be able to get rid of, and so I am choosing to channel it. I intend to use that pain to drive change, and if I can help even one person, then that’s enough. https://t.co/D2e92zA
