#ICYMI: Dark matter researchers have seen something unusual in the LZ detector. Physicist Richard Gaitskell talks with @scifri about the hunt for a #DarkMatter particle and what’s so interesting about the recent result. https://t.co/KVdehyqwF4 2.8K views · 39 likes · 8 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →
Today, we remember those we lost on September 11, 2001, and the families, friends, and communities who still carry that loss. We also honor the courage and compassion shown by those who stepped forward to help. 🤍 https://t.co/SMiq9YxyXM

@BerkeleyLab @newscientist I would not get excited yet. Plenty of 1-in-200 events in physics turned out to be background. But 248 keV is a genuinely weird place for a WIMP to show up. I'd like to see the other two-thirds of the LZ data before calling anything. 12 views · 0 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
@BerkeleyLab @newscientist Dark matter is not a particle, therefore it can never be found. Dark matter/energy are effects emanating from the fabric of spacetime. Particles cannot be found, but the effects we call dark matter-energy can be measured/observed. Although we observe 38 views · 0 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

“Before one can declare victory, you need a few more data points, but now they have something to aim for, they know where to look.” - Wick Haxton, Berkeley Lab scientist emeritus on LZ’s new #DarkMatter result. Scientists spotted something intriguing in the LZ #DarkMatter detector. “It’s like seeing a present under the Christmas tree. You’re hoping it’s something good and you’re excited no matter what.” - Wick Haxton, LBNL scientist emeritus. @ScienceMagazine https://t.co/XQeu2Uj439 3K views · 48 likes · 10 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →

@BerkeleyLab @sciam Fantastic work from the Berkeley Lab team. This is exactly the kind of science that turns ideas like electric aviation and eVTOL aircraft into reality. Well done all. 50 views · 0 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →
What were you doing on June 16, 2023? That’s when the LZ #DarkMatter experiment recorded an unusual particle interaction in their detector. Read the full story from @sciam ⬇️ https://t.co/2BnlrmpTW1 3.5K views · 45 likes · 9 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →
