POV: you are a dog walker paid money by a loving, hard working pet parent to take time out of your day to care for this dog and this is how she greets you https://t.co/c4sgyBgfxJ

I work at an FQHC. We bill Medicaid and my patients pay $0 out of pocket to see me. I choose to work there because I think it’s important to provide excellent care to people who can’t pay $700/month for concierge medicine by doctors who don’t believe in the flu shot. 🙄

@DrSarahAxelrath Hi Sarah.
Thanks for sharing my apex program.
All that shows is that you have ABSOLUTELY no idea what your bosses charge patients.
Grow up.

This is so dumb and somehow also totally worth the $70 or whatever I paid to see 30 of Jayde’s pitbull relatives 🤣🥹 https://t.co/BYTDpoizoz

Please explain to me how saying “no” to a 12 year old asking you to buy them a $300 motorbike *wouldn’t* work.
They gonna buy it themselves?
Steal it?
Physically threaten you in some way?
A child crying and being upset is a survivable problem.
Brains on the pavement is not.

@DrSarahAxelrath Thank goodness! I struggled with continuing on here too but I have learned so much. There are issues but experts have been overwhelmingly generous with sharing their knowledge. And that’s hard to replace and near impossible to find now days.

This platform was once a place to share interesting ideas, meet thought leaders in the field, and explore new points of view. I’ve made IRL friends and collaborated on papers with people I met through Twitter. It used to be good for something.

I think we could take this platform back, if we tried. We could interact only with posts that are interesting or useful to us, and ignore all the noise from losers who want to suck us into their self-made vortexes of misery.

We’ll see how it goes. I’m pinning this post for accountability so that if I start to give in to the temptation to descend into the pits of Twitter discourse hell, someone can quote tweet this at me and pull me back from the brink.

Things are feeling very hard right now, and I’ve been using that as an excuse to disconnect. I’ve been burning out and shutting down. But that’s not how I want to show up in the world, and it certainly doesn’t help the communities I care about.

As upsetting as this new federal political landscape is to me, I’m objectively better off than most. No one is kicking down my door or restricting my rights. Yet. And so it seems like a particularly important time to keep speaking, even when being silent seems easier.

I still think that what I have to say matters, and can help people. Probably now more than ever. I don’t expect to get the same level of engagement as I did before, and that’s ok. I won’t be engaging the same way I did before, either.

I won’t be indulging the rage-bait, despair, or hate. I came here to chew bubblegum and lift up important points of view on harm reduction, addiction treatment, and homelessness…and I’m all out of bubblegum.

Hey. I’ve decided I’m going to try to be back on Twitter (I won’t be calling it the other thing.) Even though it’s different now, even though the algorithm seems specifically designed to try to drive me insane, and even though a lot of the people I valued have left the platform.
