The fine print: buy through an affiliate link here and a small commission comes my way. You pay the same either way. Educational content, not medical advice; no statement here has been checked by the FDA. Run new supplements past your doctor, especially on medication.

So, what to do:
• Sweat properly three to four times a week. Sauna, training, heat.
• Look after the arteries. Know your numbers, eat nitrate-rich food, move, never smoke.
• Recover as seriously as you train.
Seven to nine hours, get outside, put the phone down.

I gave up on magnesium twice before I read a label properly.
Since April it has been threonate after dinner, my afternoons hold, and I stop losing the word I want mid-sentence.
I take the L-threonate form, as Magtein:

The trouble is that most of what you swallow never reaches the brain at all.
Oxide and citrate do their work elsewhere in the body.
L-threonate is the form built to cross that barrier, and it is the one the brain work actually used. ↓

The fog is the part people write off as age.
Magnesium has a real hand in it, and most people running hard are short of it without ever checking.

Smoking takes this system apart.
Cigarettes raise oxidative stress, cut nitric oxide availability, activate platelets and damage the vessel lining.
Even second-hand smoke appears to blunt vessel function for a while.

A large pooled analysis in The Lancet, back in 2002, reported the pattern plainly.
Each step up in systolic pressure was associated with a meaningfully higher risk of dying from heart disease.
The association appeared to start well inside what most people call normal.

3. Your blood pressure stays low
There is a reason high blood pressure gets called the silent one.
Steady pressure wears on the endothelium, the thin lining inside every vessel you have.

Nitric oxide is a gas your body makes to tell blood vessels to relax and open.
It drives blood flow, oxygen delivery and the repair your cells do overnight.
Production starts falling in your thirties and keeps falling from there.

2. You stop breathing through your mouth
Your nasal passages make nitric oxide.
Breathe through your nose and that gas travels down into your lungs, where it supports healthy vessel function.
It has a hand in blood sugar and insulin sensitivity too. ↓

So which one is actually worth buying?
Six months on plain standardised beet root at 2400mg before training, and my warm-ups stopped feeling like work while the back half of a session finally holds.
The beet root I use:

But then I learned that a cheap beet powder is worse than no beet at all.
Most of the tub is flavouring, sugar, and colouring, so you get the sugar hit and almost none of the nitrate you bought beet for.
So this is what I look for ↓

Run short on it and the vague things show first.
Flat energy, foggy afternoons, recovery that drags.
Dietary nitrate feeds the system, which is why beet root sits at the centre of it.
Most beet products are flavoured blends though, and little nitrate survives it. ↓

Heart attacks cluster in the morning hours.
Waking is when your body pushes up cortisol, adrenaline, blood pressure and heart rate all at once.
And if you are up two or three times a night for the bathroom, that is often blood sugar talking.

A heart doctor once admitted:
“There are 3 types of people who never get heart attacks.”

The most underrated health hack no one wants to do is walking 10,000 steps a day.

@MagnusLindbrg A neuroscientist said:
Your brain has a nightly wash cycle that flushes out waste linked to memory loss.
A study found this system works best when you sleep on your side.
Supplements help, but sleeping on your side lets your brain clear out toxins for free.

The honest part, since I opened that I'm >50.
The 10 above are the ones I would rebuy tomorrow.
The other 30 are experiments, and most of them will not survive the year.
Supplements are the last 5% you add after sleep, food and training are handled. Not the first.

Closing that ratio is the one I would not skip.
I ate fish maybe twice a month for years and wondered why recovery dragged. Triglyceride form, 2g of EPA and DHA daily, is what I settled on.

10. Omega-3
A typical modern diet runs an omega-6 to omega-3 ratio near 20 to 1. Ancestral diets ran closer to 1 to 1.
That gap is the single biggest thing most people can close, and food alone rarely closes it ↓

9. Taurine
Under discussed, cheap, and involved in almost everything from bile to heart tissue to nervous system tone.
1 to 2g a day. It is the one people ask me about least and I would give up last.

Threonate is the one I add when the work is mental rather than physical.
Two forms of the same mineral sounds excessive until you have run both. They do not do the same thing.
The threonate I buy (aff link):
