What about people who want to make their own insulin pumps? Or cochlear implants? Specifying exactly how much capacity people should be allowed to give themselves is telling them how much freedom they deserve. All medicine is inherently unnatural, in the best sense of that term.

@deontologistics it's also just philosophically indefensible if you hold yourself to modern (read: kantian / post kantian) standards of proof and argumentation!

@deontologistics I am an ethical naturalist of a kind. But that label does not mean much absent of filling in what the position is and entails. Not clear to me that generalizations like this are good for much more than twitter.

When I say I take a hard line on normative naturalism, I mean it very seriously. I think it is an ideological poison because it is something adopted for very well intended and aesthetically palatable reasons but ultimately grows into the grandest of ethical atrocities.

@willmacaskill @tjohnlinward Needless to say, share and share widely, if you are so inclined. It helps me put more of this out into the universe, whatever it is. 🖖

@willmacaskill @tjohnlinward And if you prefer a visual medium and would like a demostration of my sheer philosophical stamina, and the fact that, yes, I do really understand Nick Land's philosophical system and can quite precisely identify the tensions in it, you want this: http

If you've read The Revenge of Reason or 'Geist in the Machine' you'll know what you're in for, but I figure I should provide some links to representative pieces of my writing for those who are on the fence about giving an itinerant Twitter philosopher money.

I'm generally a bit shy about asking for money like this, not least because my ups and downs have, in the past, posed a significant problem to sustaining long term projects. But that was also largely in part to a lack of money, so what's a guy to do?

Okay, so the day I finally crack 10K followers seems like the best time to announce this, following in the steps of @peligrietzer, I have just put up a Manifund pitch for a project I am running on the concept of self and the way implicit assumptions about it cloud AI discourse.
