The important thing to remember is that nothing has necessarily changed in the companies themselves. But if MSCI changes a stock’s place or weight in its indices, funds tracking those indices still have to buy or sell it. So some stocks could see large flows during today’s CAS, 3.6K views · 9 likes · 1 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

For F&O traders, this creates another interesting effect. Large MSCI buy and sell orders will now enter the cash-market auction, while futures and options continue trading until 3:40 PM. So large moves in affected stocks during CAS could also be reflected in Nifty and stock 4K views · 11 likes · 1 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

Earlier, a stock’s closing price was based on its VWAP during the final 30 minutes. A fund could trade during this period, but it could not know in advance what the final closing price would be. With CAS, closing orders are collected and matched at a single equilibrium price, 2.9K views · 8 likes · 1 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

In the last rebalance, ETFs and index funds tracking MSCI had to adjust their holdings. The additions were estimated to trigger around $1.38 billion of buying, while the deletions were estimated to lead to around $715 million of selling. Overall, the rebalance was estimated to 3.6K views · 14 likes · 2 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

ETFs and other index funds then track these indices, just like Nifty ETFs track the Nifty 50. So when MSCI adds or removes a stock, or changes its weight in the index, these funds have to adjust their holdings too. That can lead to large buying or selling in the affected 3.9K views · 15 likes · 0 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

Just like the Nifty 50 tracks 50 large Indian stocks and the Sensex tracks 30, MSCI also creates stock indices. Its MSCI India Index tracks around 165 large and mid-sized Indian companies. 4.6K views · 17 likes · 2 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

MSCI Index rebalancing is back today. During the last two rounds, the Nifty fell around 0.5% to 1% near the close. Today, those heavy closing flows will meet the new Closing Auction Session (CAS) for the first time. CAS was built for moments like this: handling large ETF and ht 42.3K views · 243 likes · 24 reposts · 4 replies Open on X →
