In the last rebalance, ETFs and index funds tracking MSCI had to adjust their holdings.
The additions were estimated to trigger around $1.38 billion of buying, while the deletions were estimated to lead to around $715 million of selling.

So when MSCI adds or removes a stock, or changes its weight in the index, these funds have to adjust their holdings too.

MSCI Index rebalancing is back today.
During the last two rounds, the Nifty fell around 0.5% to 1% near the close. Today, those heavy closing flows will meet the new Closing Auction Session (CAS) for the first time.
