@jpapi7 @reallyoptimized actual data analysis - great theories, poor data. Mice are not small humans. 776 views · 7 likes · 0 reposts · 3 replies Open on X →

4/4 Around 1.2–1.6 g/kg/day supports muscle and function, especially after 50 and alongside resistance training. Uncertainty remains. “Higher protein shortens your life” is a hypothesis to test, not a fact to teach. 768 views · 21 likes · 2 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →

2/4 A meta-analysis of 715,128 people linked higher total protein with lower mortality. Our reanalysis of the NHANES III dataset behind a widely cited harm claim reached essentially opposite conclusions. https://t.co/xAJxkFnGUB 1.4K views · 25 likes · 1 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

3/4 Nutrient-sensing biology matters. But lifespan gains in yeast, worms and rodents do not establish that higher protein shortens human life. Human evidence also links higher intake with less frailty and better-preserved function. 1.4K views · 23 likes · 1 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

1/4 “Higher protein shortens your life.” Sticky claim. Thin human evidence. Our search deliberately looked for harm. Most findings were null, tied to food sources or substitutions, or favoured higher intake. Protein intake is not the same as dietary pattern. 9.4K views · 109 likes · 15 reposts · 8 replies Open on X →

@mackinprof It’s absolutely scaring to see so many MD’s unable to critically appreciate research results. 261 views · 3 likes · 0 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

@mackinprof Yes, they were randomized to screening. We can all read. That resulted in substantially more statin use, with no significant difference in MACE or mortality. And now we're apparently using "trended toward benefit” as evidence too? 373 views · 4 likes · 0 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

Read the trial. Nobody was randomized to statins; they were randomized to a screening invitation (37% never showed). Statin-naive men trended toward benefit, baseline statin users got none. The harm was aspirin bleeding. This debunks liberal aspirin use, not statins. https://t.co
