@DavidKlion Is "PMC obsession with socially reproducing itself" somehow distinct from what (I think) is a widely held wish among parents (in many contexts) that their children have as good/better lives than they themselves did?

One way to avoid this dilemma is to not have kids, and indeed that is a disproportionately popular option among PMCs...

Also, this is what happens when you try to individually address a structural problem. There's a certain nobility in it but it doesn't actually address the problem and will never be scalable.

Or put more bluntly, when you occupy the upper tier of cultural capital, what do you think a more equal society looks like? It looks like downward mobility for your kids. Some people can stomach that, more can't, but ultimately that's the choice.

My reaction to the NHJ piece is that the PMC obsession with socially reproducing itself is not just incompatible with, but antithetical to, its egalitarian ideals. These are opposite and irreconcilable wishes, this is the core hypocrisy of our class, and it is crazymaking.

The shamelessly catty Midge Decter on Gloria Steinem. They actually had a lot in common: Midwest-born (7 years apart) Jewish women who ended up in NYC, edited influential magazines, and were de facto CIA fronts. https://t.co/OW51gUjImh

Deep down I think Neera and swathes of the extremely online left are in love. They can't quit each other. They share the bond of posting addiction and of never, ever leaving 2016.

Neera Tanden returned to CAP to fight Trump. She’s spent much of her time fighting her left flank instead.
For @NYMag, I wrote about the Democratic establishment’s strongest soldier.

This sentence alone is extraordinary; it's been 25 years and generously, this was true for one of them. https://t.co/vlBt8uRHQj

I think Moulton has exactly the wrong idea and I don’t only mean because it’s offensive to me. I think it reeks of cynicism and cowardice in a way that would repel anyone. You don’t build a winning coalition by pissing off, demoralizing, and expelling its existing members.
