Open fractures are not “just fractures with a wound.” A 2025 series of 6,042 cases found 12-month infection at 28.9% in Gustilo IIIB injuries [1]. In 2026, pooled deep infection after open tibial nailing hit 41.8% in IIIC fractures [2]. 🚨 Management is time-critical:
