Only 6.8% of Americans are metabolically healthy... That means 93.2% of us are walking around with some form of metabolic dysfunction: high blood sugar, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, obesity, or a history of heart attack or stroke. Can a ketogenic diet rewire the brain in bipolar disorder? New research suggests it can, by lowering glutamate, a neurotransmitter that’s often elevated in epilepsy, bipolar, and schizophrenia. That’s why keto was originally used to treat seizures… and now, it’s being revisited 25.7K views · 181 likes · 33 reposts · 15 replies 04 Sep 2026 · Open on X →
@drmarkhyman Environmental toxins can also be an explanation for some ADHD. Mold/lyme/fungal infections/viral etc. I was a skeptic about the mold stuff, but I’ve a couple of family members that had miraculous recoveries from ADHD and much worse. @drmarkhyman This is an important way to look at ADHD. Brain function doesn’t happen in isolation from the rest of the body. Nutrition, micronutrient status, sleep, metabolic health, inflammation, hormones, and the gut-brain axis can all influence cognition, mood, and attention. 148 views · 2 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies 03 Sep 2026 · Open on X →
@drmarkhyman I have ADHD. I’ve probably owned 300 planners in my lifetime. Lists and reminders don’t fix it for Me… my iPhone has reminders 4 days old. My skylight calendar has them 4 weeks old. My other half has them for god only knows for me. Weirdly, keeping my shoes on so 347 views · 3 likes · 0 reposts · 4 replies 03 Sep 2026 · Open on X →
ADHD is usually treated as a problem in the brain. But what if some of the factors making it harder to focus, regulate your mood, or manage your symptoms are actually coming from somewhere else in your body? @drmarkhyman There is one foundational driver missing from this list: Our complete separation from the natural light-dark cycle. We spend our days indoors under light that is dramatically dimmer than sunlight, then flood our eyes with artificial light after sunset. @drmarkhyman A lot of this I agree with. Where I’d pump the brakes is making the immune system the one thread tying every chronic disease together. Most of these illnesses are more like 20 years of small hits stacking up: diet, sleep, smoking, blood pressure, ApoB, weight, stre 208 views · 2 likes · 0 reposts · 1 replies 31 Aug 2026 · Open on X →

We’re living through the worst chronic disease epidemic in human history, and it’s not a mystery why. Our ultra-processed, nutrient-poor diet. The overload of environmental toxins. Chronic stress, poor sleep, disrupted circadian rhythms. Overuse of antibiotics. These changes ht 30.5K views · 163 likes · 41 reposts · 29 replies 31 Aug 2026 · Open on X →

Just because a chemical is used in our food doesn’t mean it’s safe. Drop a yes below if you agree! In fact, many are only ‘generally recognized as safe’ (GRAS) because food companies say so, not because they’ve been thoroughly tested.
