If anything they're lying by hiding how afraid and defeatist they are. know these people. Ask anyone else who knows them. At most some of the CEOs might be exaggerating what they think to go along with employee sentiment they don't believe.

The sad broken part is that the AI scientists firmly do believe this on average.
They are unable to act because they're modern well educated broken Westernes, and thus feel deep in their soul they're unable to act in ways contrary to their social role without permission.
