Control tower was required to report the wind direction & speed because there was a tailwind for landing on runway 30, per FAA Order JO 7110.65. ATC recordings indicate the controller did not. Of the SEVEN Upper Air Observation sites in TX, only ONE is reporting data at 12z this AM. Adjacent LCH and SHV in LA are also missing. The one reporting site? Del Rio, is automated. An auto launcher is used. Coincidence? Does @NWS need to proliferate these? #WhereAreTheHumans?

@JohnMoralesTV Here are 5 minute winds from the ASOS at MIA starting at 1:25pm. West wind at 8mph, then 9mph at 1:30pm. Wind shifted to SSW by 1:35pm, &was due south at 13mph at 1:40pm. Remained south & increased in speed thru 1:53pm. Plane clearly landed with a tailwind. Landed

Aircraft land into the wind, not with a tailwind (unless it's an emergency). Runway 30 points NW. There *had* been a headwind from the W up until a few minutes prior to the approach. At 1:53 PM EDT, exactly when the cargo jet landed long and ran off runway 30 in Miami, a significant quartering tailwind gust from S at 30 mph ensued (PK WND 18026/1752). Winds had been W at 10 mph at 1:30 then backed gradually to S at 13 mph at 1:40. T-storms were in vicinity. h
