It's also been debated by scientists. I just think dooming in general has a bad history throughout time, and there's a reason faiths that have withstood millennia advise against it: https://t.co/R4swuSsFzp 3.2K views · 13 likes · 1 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →

What frustrates me further is that AI safety doesn't inherently need to be doomer, and there are obvious risks we should be working on ameliorating, but there are all these other beliefs undergirding it that are never made explicit but you have to accept or be called behind the 3.8K views · 12 likes · 3 reposts · 1 replies Open on X →

Also, the question of whether or not nuclear annihilation of humanity is even possible has been debated by theologians across religions. I also believe this with respect to nuclear war and climate catastrophe. Are they risks we should fear? Yes. Are they going to destroy us all? No. 5.4K views · 23 likes · 0 reposts · 12 replies Open on X →

@neerajadeshp I don't think calling the possibility of humans dying is science fiction. I think its quite reasonable to say it is very unlikely but individual human societies have had some kinds of extinction in the past. 1.9K views · 100 likes · 0 reposts · 3 replies Open on X →

I think it is underdiscussed how much the Sci Fi narrative around AI is ultimately in opposition to the eschatology of ~every major faith. Maybe the AI doomer Sci Fi-ers are right, and everyone else is wrong, but it’s still incredibly underdiscussed. 13.5K views · 67 likes · 5 reposts · 25 replies Open on X →

It takes an incredibly impoverished, materialistic, hubristic, godless view of man to assume that we are so powerful as to be able to wipe ourselves out. There are real security concerns coming from AI, but we can address those without resorting to science fiction. 169.6K views · 351 likes · 26 reposts · 192 replies Open on X →
