I've used these reference cards when building showdown lineups for the last few years, just updated them with another season of data.
They show average FLEX utilization of top-1% finishing lineups based on CPT position. For example, CPT QBs are paired with 1.82 same team WR/TE

In Nebraska I was told a number. I did not believe it. I have since checked it, and I still do not believe it.
The football stadium in Lincoln has sold every seat, for every home game, since November 3, 1962.
Every game. Not the good years. Every game. Through seasons the state

TLDR:
* moderate deficit (~1% BW/week)
* high protein (0.7–1g/lb)
* fats ~20–25% of total calories, carbs as the variable
* swap foods in current diet for lower cal options
* train to stimulate
* daily low-intensity cardio

Preaching what I still need to practice: improve sleep quality. If you're in a deficit your recovery system is already disadvantaged. I have tried the 10-3-2-1 method (minus the 3)
* 10 hours before bed, no caffeine
* 2 hours before, no work
* 1 hour before, no screen

Most of the meals I ate were roughly the same as I was eating before (minus the treats), just with less calorie-dense alternatives
white rice → cauliflower rice/sweet potato
whole eggs → egg whites
85/15 beef → 93/7
sugar-free/fat-free sauces
diet soda, zero cal sweeters, etc

Training volume and splits stayed the same: legs, chest, back, arms ~8 working sets (at/near failure) per muscle group.
The goal went from progressive overload to stimulation. Amount of volume needed to maintain existing muscle is much different than volume needed to grow it.

Cardio wasn't crazy, just added 30 min of steady-state cardio daily mostly on the treadmill (3.5 incline, 3.5 speed)
I kept it in zone 2 (~60–70% max HR), not because I think it's superior to higher intensity cardio, I'm just lazy and there's no added recovery cost.

Once the scale stalled at maintenance, I started the real caloric deficit.
Data suggests weight loss of ~0.5–1% of bodyweight per week maximizes muscle retention and fat loss. I was more aggressive so mine was a little higher than that.

Fats stayed at roughly 20–25% of total daily calories.
When weight loss stalled, I dropped carbs ~50g/day and tracked weight before adjusting further.
Carbs are the easiest macro to cut without affecting muscle maintenance. Reduce them incrementally, not all at once.

Protein was non-negotiable throughout at ~1g/lb of bodyweight.
Studies show that during a cut 0.7–0.82g/lb is fine but I had no issue going above that as a buffer.
I only tracked protein from "complete" sources; eggs, chicken, beef, dairy, whey isolate, etc.

I was no exception to the "If you think you've got 20 pounds to lose, you probably have 40-50 pounds to lose" rule of thumb.

I was coming off a lengthy bulk, I dropped to maintenance calories instead of an immediate deficit.
During a lengthy surplus your total daily energy expenditure is elevated. There are a ton of TDEE calculators online to help figure out what your maintenance calories should be.
