At the time, college athletes couldn’t be paid for their name, image, and likeness.
So the only path to a billion-dollar business was building the infrastructure for an industry that didn’t legally exist yet, and finding a way to profit on it.

In 2014, I was asked what would turn @Opendorse into a billion-dollar company.
I told them straight up: we’re gonna have to do something illegal.

100% of Big Ten, SEC, ACC, Big 12 schools are sourcing ‘above-the-cap’ deals for their football and basketball players.
The best ones have built robust NIL content teams on campus — here’s why. https://t.co/omMzcgtOJM

Here is a photo of Adi and me on the day we launched Opendorse in 2012.
It's a reminder of how far we’ve come.
And a reminder to other founders out there...
Real things take time.
Consistency pays off.
Innovation doesn't come easy. https://t.co/44e3YaMTlV

Building in this category has required constant reinvention.
The industry changed.
The rules changed.
The expectations changed.
You either keep innovating or you get left behind. https://t.co/6gILRDCcVg

When Adi and I started Opendorse in 2012, we were just trying to help one athlete.
One step at a time.
One problem at a time.
One innovation at a time. https://t.co/BMdIdpKzuS

Opendorse was named to Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies list for 2026.
Pretty surreal to see our name on a list alongside companies like Google, NVIDIA, Adidas, Nintendo, and Airbnb. https://t.co/qIRajEHPP0
