Everyone sells. Even if you're not in sales. The engineer selling a technical approach to the team lead. The parent selling broccoli to a five-year-old. The founder selling a vision to the first hire who could have taken a safer job. Selling isn't a job title. It's what you do 2.4K views · 48 likes · 5 reposts · 4 replies Open on X →

@nireyal This is such an important distinction. Sometimes the behavior we’re trying so hard to eliminate is only the visible part. Understanding what we’re trying to escape, soothe, or avoid can tell us much more than simply asking why we lack discipline. 15 views · 1 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

@nireyal The identity piece ties it together for me. You mostly act your way into a new belief, not the other way around. Just wish it drew a line between labels that are just stories we picked up versus ones that are actually true, like real anxiety. You don't have to earn your rest. Somewhere along the way, we started treating rest like a reward — something you unlock after enough output. Enough emails answered. Enough boxes ticked. Enough proof that you deserve to stop. But rest isn't a prize for productivity. It's a http 2.6K views · 20 likes · 4 reposts · 7 replies Open on X →

@nireyal “We often mistake switching quickly between tasks for productivity. But being busy and being deeply focused are not the same thing. Sometimes doing less at once is how we actually accomplish more.” 9 views · 2 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

@nireyal This is why a day full of meetings and messages can leave you exhausted without actually feeling productive. Attention gets fragmented long before you notice it. 18 views · 2 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

@nireyal Yes, I have found even just keeping the phone on the desk while working (like I am writing and phone is there even on airplane) creates a distraction. The presence itself is disturbing. Not kind of a residue thing but noticeable. 75 views · 3 likes · 0 reposts · 0 replies Open on X →

Every time you switch tasks, you pay a tax. It's called attention residue. Sophie Leroy at the University of Washington coined the term in 2009 after showing that part of your mind stays stuck on the previous task even after you've moved on to the next one. Helplessness and hope aren't opposites of circumstance. They're beliefs about it. Two people can face the same setback. One sees a door closing forever. The other sees a problem to solve. Same event, different belief — and the belief is what shapes the next move. This matters h 2.3K views · 11 likes · 3 reposts · 4 replies Open on X →
