A GIF on X is not a GIF. The platform converts every uploaded animation into a short silent MP4 and plays it in a loop, because a video file is a fraction of the size. So what you save here is an MP4 — and that is not a shortcoming of this page, it is the only file that exists.
For almost everything that is what you want anyway: messengers, editors and social platforms all take MP4, and many of them would convert a real GIF back to video on upload. If you specifically need the .gif extension, any converter does it in one step.
As with videos, we host nothing: the link points at the CDN of X and the download goes straight from X to you. Private accounts and deleted posts are beyond reach — there is no hidden channel here, only the public page.
For video files there is a separate page; to browse everything an account has posted, use the media viewer.
How to save a GIF from X
- Copy the post link. Any x.com or twitter.com link to a post with a GIF.
- Paste it above. If the post is new to us, it is fetched on the spot.
- Save the file. Press save next to the GIF. It arrives as an MP4 clip — that is how X keeps them.

Why do I get an MP4 instead of a GIF?

Do you keep the files?
No. The link points at the servers of X and nothing passes through us.
Can I save a GIF from a private account?
No. Protected posts are not available to anyone outside their followers.
Does it work on mobile?
