@1StarAtaTyme I wish every steel and auto worker actually looked at what teachers are asking They would know it’s well below their expectations from their own unions. They would be embarrassed.

Some are about manageable workloads, working conditions, fair wages, job security, and basic terms of employment.
That's what collective bargaining is. Teachers can care about their students and still fight for a better contract. They're not mutually exclusive.

Negotiations are not, in fact, a referendum on how much teachers care about students. Teachers don't have to justify every demand in their employment contract by explaining how it benefits students. Some demands will benefit students. Some will benefit teachers...

@1StarAtaTyme That’s our society. Someone somewhere told people that their opinion about education should be as valid as someone who studied for years on the topic. And there opinion about epidemiology should be as valid as a scientist who got their doctorate. Etc. etc.

Some people believe that "I went to school" and "I know teachers" qualify them to tell educators how the ed system works and how to do their jobs.
Their confidence is often not in line with their expertise and the fact that they’re so often wrong doesn’t seem to diminish it. 🙄
