In the end, Jack Kirby ends his saga with the “lowlies” of Apokolips’ Armagettos fighting back. With nothing left to lose, with their hearts and minds emancipated from the fear of oppressive, domineering control, they did for themselves what not even the Gods in this story could.

Two of the greatest comic issues i have ever read. Unbelievable.
NEW GODS #7: “The Death Wish of Terrible Turpin”
MISTER MIRACLE #9: “Himon”
Absolutely powerful, moving, and seminal work. More on these two later. https://t.co/wvfgtDWg9P

@ziv_zz Issue #7 is the famous one. “The Pact” tells the story of the war before the war. Steppenwolf’s invasion of New Genesis. Darkseid’s rise to power. Izaya’s odyssey and eventual path towards becoming Highfather. The deal to trade Orion and baby Scott Free.

@ziv_zz Issues #5 and 6 are the Orion vs Deep Six fight. It’s thoroughly entertaining, and well drawn, aided by the efforts of new inker Mike Royer.
Vince Colletta is notorious for simplifying Jack’s pencils, even erasing details at times. I thought his fourth world work was a

@ziv_zz I love the idea that when the soldiers of New Genesis die, they go back to The Source. The threat of the Deep Six was established in NEW GODS #4 when they kill Seagrin offscreen, and Orion’s reaction was an early example of noted vulnerability. His stoic veneer was broken

@ziv_zz There’s a lot of cool things going on simultaneously. Orion is at war with himself. His nurture fights with his nature. He lives to fight Apokolips but he was born of Apokolips. He lives to take down Darkseid but was brought up in his image. He is regularly faced with wha

@ziv_zz New Gods is exceptional.
In a story about a cosmic war between God-like forces, the prevailing theme is that of the unyielding human spirit.
Jack Kirby warns his readers of all the pitfalls and vices that humanity falls into. Its darker nature, its tendency to abuse p

@ziv_zz Haven’t updated this thread in a while but I have been reading this entire time. Let’s catch up:
The Mister Miracle title really came together once Big Barda joined in. The Scott Free Apokolips backstory with Granny Goodness is so good too. A lot of readers gravitate tow

@ziv_zz New Gods #5 time.
Notable issue, feels like things are reaching an inflection point, or at the very least, this appears to be an early major arc climax.
Inker Mike Royer makes his debut. Preceding him was Vince Colletta, who is very unpopular by comic fans. I’d say that

Like I said. Jack is in the fucking zone.
We’ve gotten to the point with these fourth world titles where his creativity cannot be contained to 21 page self-contained stories. Every series is in the midst of multipart stories

@ziv_zz After the cold open, the issue’s intro page opens with the following narration that I thought was worth sharing:
