When Craig Whyte owned Rangers, he made the brilliant decision to stop paying tax, sending the club into administration. So it’s awesome that he’s now providing consultancy on “how to protect assets from litigation and navigate the complex world of offshore structures”. 10/10

We shouldn't worry too much about Rokos leaving. Wealthy people have always left the UK, and I doubt there's any conceivable tax regime that would have kept him. We should worry that the UK is now much less attractive to others like Rokos considering coming here. 119.9K views · 859 likes · 79 reposts · 172 replies Open on X →

If you want a smaller state and serious tax cuts, then you should not increase the personal allowance. It's expensive and inefficient, and doesn't fix the most serious problems we have (high marginal rates, SDLT, complexity, etc) 96.4K views · 931 likes · 127 reposts · 54 replies Open on X →
Reform’s policy to further extend allowances makes this problem bigger which is why it is a daft choice for a tax cut. As a small state low tax kind of person you might think it strange that I’m criticising a tax cut. But there are much better ways of using tax cuts to 135.3K views · 102 likes · 9 reposts · 15 replies Open on X →
@DanNeidle Incredible work to identify a complex issue. My answer is Singaporean by nature, simple and beyond circumvention, tax all properties and annual percentage of its value (.75%?). Scrap council, business and the ludicrous mansion taxes. No exceptions. 4K views · 104 likes · 6 reposts · 4 replies Open on X →

More tomorrow, looking at how to use the app to find specific properties whose ownership is hidden, including some of the most valuable property in the country. 7.3K views · 138 likes · 45 reposts · 2 replies Open on X →
But you can explore yourself - link at top of this thread. Just please be careful not to draw any conclusions about any companies/people solely on the basis of our app. We didn't/couldn't hand check 90,000 properties, and there will inevitably be mistakes. Do please check stuff. 10.6K views · 96 likes · 22 reposts · 3 replies Open on X →
So where are all these offshore companies? Mostly Jersey, BVI, Isle of Man, Guernsey. These countries host a lot of non-compliant owners of UK real estate. But - to be fair - lots of compliant owners too. https://t.co/CJwDfGNHWL

If we rank countries by % of non-disclosing companies we see a different story. Denmark comes out worse than Jersey. (Our report goes into why this is) https://t.co/Pcr4hGGIuA

Lots of property in the UK is held by offshore companies. Can be legitimate. Can also be tax evasion, money laundering, etc. So in 2023 the law required offshore companies with UK property to register their true "beneficial owner". Usually has to be an actual human. https://t.
